Tanzania is situated on the east coast of Africa and is home to more than 126 tribes, each with its own language, mode of life, cuisine, and drink types. Known for its tropical beaches, majestic Kilimanjaro, great lakes, and an abundance of wildlife, it is a destination in Africa unlike any other. Almost 157 miles of Tanzania's land has been designated as protected forest reserves and open grasslands. These areas are famous for spectacular landscapes, herds of herbivores, and an abundance of big cats. It's no wonder that Tanzania is known as the game of Africa.
The Tanzanian people are hospitable and friendly. Tanzania is the only country on the continent that has people from all African ethnic groups. Migrations, wanderings, and intermingling of peoples over thousands of years have made Tanzania a land of extreme ethnic diversity. You can see an incredible mosaic of different peoples and cultures from the northern plains of nomadic cattle tribes to the southern highlands of settled agrarian communities, and from the areas of matrilineal societies in the east to the communal hunter-gathers in the interior.
